Situated on the "revers", terraced, of a hill of Provence, in the south of France, near Forcalquier, between Banon and St Michel l'Observatoire. Here Giono placed the begining of his novel "Regain".

The word "brousse" means heath, brushwood. During the last century, because of a illnesse wich took off all the men in the village, it was also called Revest des Dames.

The escutcheon presents La Vache -the cow- wich symbolizes abundance and also reminds of the name of the first seigniorial family: Les Vachères.

Prehistoric remains were find on the site like the Oppidum of the Tower, a center of cutting of silex during the superior palaeolithic (-10 000 to -4000). Some mediaeval remains were also find: the fortifications of thePortal of the Mourres and the aisle of the Church St Côme and Damien (XIVe). Then the village would have lodged part of the archives and treasure of the Templars of Provence...

This savage and splendid region of Provence has a remarkably pure sky and a lot of people come to contemplate the stars in St Michell'Observatoire and in the Montain of Lure. The astronomer Guillaume St Jacques (1722-1801) who studied the atmospheric layers lived in the Castle of Silvabelle (XVIIe). The past seigniorial castle now lodges the municicipal group and the association Mangea Cabre who makes some local parties.

All along the summer you can see the hills coloured with lavander blue, and since june 1996 the traditional productions of biological cultures La Bonne Terre propose a view..
