Abbey
of Sénanque Gordes in Vaucluse, France "One of the most pure witness of the monastic architecture in the XIIth" |
The
abbey was founded in 1148 at the bottom of the valley of Gordes, during
that Middle-ages which covered the Catholic Christendom with more than
700 monasteries. All the abbeys are built on the same plans and according to the Saint Benoit 's rule, the Cistercian monks lead a life of prayer and work, mainly farm and entirely in a community. At Senanque we may participate in the monks' prayers during the offices. The dormitory may be visited, as well as the church, the chapter room, the heating room, the cloister . |
