Preserved since the Middle Ages in the Common House (then Town Hall), the archives were installed in 1970 in the walls of the former convent of the Bénédictins said "Grand Couvent" after the rehabilitation of this building and of the magnificent chapel of same name. But it is in 1989 that is created the Service of the Municipal Archives, finally permitting the access of public to this funds of which alone some rare insiders could have measured the interest. The Archives of the City preserve indeed close to eight centuries of memory written of this former Episcopal city. Of Cavaillon of the Counts of Toulouse to the Cavaglione of the vice legate, the former archives (1235-1790) represent 50 meters of linear of documents (120 registers, 250 charters on parchment, 32000 pieces paper). One will mention, among the most homogeneous sets : the deliberations of Counsel since 1391, counts them some treasurers since 1461, the land registers former since 1582, the parochial registers since 1562.
The funds of revolutionary times (1789-An VIII), lately classified and made an
inventory of, gave place to a systematic analysis some deliberations and correspondences.
The modern sets (of 1800 to our days) is currently in progress of ordering.
